Hi XY, thanks for your question. I took Bachelor of Decision Science in UUM. In my Bachelor degree I do learn Visual Basic programming language, and I also learn Python and R before my Master as preparation.

Yes the lecturer will be teaching the software and coding preliminarily, you will have to do some self study or google search some methods to complete the labs/assignment/projects. If you have no coding experience, is good that you learn basic programming in Python and R so you won't be overwhelmed by the lecture, because for coding, they only teach the basic in two classes which is about 3 hours. After that there will be lab assignments.

You can learn some Programming, have a taste of it first before you register for subjects, and then decide how many programming subject you want to take in a semester. For software part, there will be lab tutorial for all software. I think only Power BI and Paraview have free version, other software like Tableau, MatLab (need programming) and Rapid Miner you will need the license. The hardest software should be Paraview due to incomplete documentation.

Lastly, I encourage you to learn from some popular Python / R books which you can probably get online, you can learn before or during your study of Data Science courses, to have a better understanding on everything. The lecture is great, but for real work, you have to study more than what is in the lecture.

Drop me your mail if you wish to get some recommendation of book source from me 😁
